If you are a regular follower of our blog, you will know that I am passionate about our family life in Spain. I thrive on learning through the eyes of our children. I have an insatiable thirst for learning and for sharing what we learn. I spend lots of time investigating new ways to educate ourselves and ideas how to share our newly found knowledge.
At least, I did. I started. It went well for a few years. Then it stopped….
But, I have seen the light. I have seen the error of my ways. I have walked away. I am back. Well, the excitement and idea generator is back at work. Hopefully the rest will soon follow.
Have I lost you yet? Let me explain…
Over the past five years or so, I have been building the foundations of our relocation business, Family in Spain SL. Admittedly, this wasn’t the best time to launch however, I wanted to do it, so I did. I’m stubborn like that. If I want something to happen I work hard to make it happen.
What do I mean by relocation business? I mean taking people by the hand, guiding them through each step of their move to Spain. Giving them plenty of food for thought. Highlighting obstacles that will need overcoming and offering information to help them to make the best decision. Guiding them on places to live, education options, bureaucratic needs and much more. My aim is for people to enjoy their life in Spain as much as we do.
But, I’m not here to talk to you about our business. I’m here to tell you how I have redefined my priorities. Priorities that resulted in me walking away from what would have become a very lucrative career. It was a career I enjoyed in many ways. But it also became a career I started to despise. It robbed me of my time. It robbed me of my independence. It robbed me of my identity. I was no longer being me. So, I closed the door and walked away.
This may seem a bit strange. It may seem exaggerated. Yet, as I sit in my garden in the sun, on a Monday morning, notepad and pen in my hands, these are the feelings and words that are flowing … I feel free again. Free to be me. Free to do what I want to do, when I want to do it.
I am excited. I cannot wait to get back to all our exciting projects. I am so looking forward to having more time with family and friends. I am already making plans. I am once again following my passions. I am doing what I love doing.
Will it make me a lot of money? Probably not.
Will it make me rich? Yes. It already has.
As a child, I’m sure that being rich was directly equated to having a lot of money and possessions. However, as we grow up and have children of our own, we have a chance to influence the definition of wealth and richness in their minds. We can convey our gratitude for everything and everyone around us. Teach them to appreciate the simple pleasures. For that we need time. I now have that time again. My children will not give you the standard dictionary definition of “rich” …
So, what next?
We have big plans for 2014. Aside from the many family trips and visits we have planned, we will be focusing on our projects. Our passions.
Our language learning cookery book, “Cooking in our Cocina”, is developing at an incredible pace thanks to the input from Sol, our wonderful illustrator (join our FB page here). We have already helped seven families make their move Spain this year and we have many more in the planning process (www.movetomalaga.com ). We are collaborating on two other exciting projects www.spanish-property.net and KidsGoTo.com .
Most importantly, we are focusing on making the most of our Family Life in Spain and hoping you continue to enjoy the ride with us.
We are doing what we love and we love what we do!
Just before I go. I’d like to share one of my favourite quotes about ambition …
See you all soon! ¡Hasta pronto amigos!
LAST MINUTE ADDITION…
