SOS Andalucia … Who and Why?
“From a tiny seed grows a beautiful healthy tree that bears fruit to feed many.
From a disaster, grew an amazing community keen and eager to help others in their time of need.
Andalucia … ¡solo hay una!”
As the wildfire tragedy was beginning its strike across Andalucia, its residents started coming together to volunteer themselves to help in whichever way they could.
Just hours into the fateful Thursday evening, a Facebook group called “SOS Volunteers Andalucia” was created to provide a social communication and information exchange platform for its fast growing followers. 3 days later, the group now has over 3,600 members.
The group has a team of 5 coordinators, who have now set up an interactive website, www.sosandalucia.com, which is updated on a regular basis with all the relevant information, events, requirements and stories, as well as offering the facility to communicate the needs of those affected and the availability of aid and help from the volunteers.
It has become a trusted forum for the organisation of aid donation points, identification of needs of those affected and calls for action to fulfil them, as well as queries and status updates regarding many aspects of this SOS.
This international community has also already established many key relationships and collaboration with various related organisations, such as local charities, media and Town Halls.
The group’s plan is to continue to serve as such a centralised platform for any other potential future SOS that may hopefully not happen in the region of Andalucia.
If you require assistance, would like to donate or even volunteer, please follow the updates being posted on www.sosandalucia.com
Please be advised that information and updates will only be published onthis website when they have been verified.
